Paint Program
The San Jose Housing Department Paint Grant Program offers free exterior house paint grants to City residents who meet low income financial criteria. If you qualify, the City would pay the cost of an approved paint contractor to paint your house.
There is a sliding scale for eligibility. For example, under guidelines revised as of January 1998, a four person household with a combined income under $46,000 would qualify for a free exterior house painting up to a maximum value of $3,000. The same four person family earning up to $77,200 would be eligible for reimbursement of 80 percent of the cost of the paint job, not to exceed $3,000. Compare a two person household earning less than $36,800. They would receive a free paint job, whereas the same couple could still qualify for 80 percent financing if they together earned no more than $61,750. And so on.
Contact the Department of Housing at (408) 277-4747 to see if you qualify. You will be asked to complete a written application form and provide proof of income. Allow four to six weeks for processing of your application.
