Tennis Camp

NNA annually sponsors in conjunction with the San Jose Parks and Recreation Department, the Backesto Park Tennis Camp. The camp features a certified U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) instructor, Don Johnson. Every summer instruction is provided to approximately 25 neighborhood children twice a week for seven weeks for FREE! Rackets and balls are also provided free, and participants receive a free camp t-shirt. After completing the camp, "the children leave with a new sense of confidence and a greater understanding and appreciation of the sport of tennis," wrote Brian Clampitt, the Watson Community Center facilities manager in the Summer 1999 edition of Northside.
