Tree Plantings

Chuck Treeplanting "Street trees are a wonderful improvement to your property for many reasons. Trees cool the hot air in the Summer, and reduce the cold winds in the Winter, which translates into savings for you on your PG&E bills. They add property value and beauty to your street, and studies have shown a connection to planting street trees and lowering crime rates. If a neighborhood looks well taken care of and nicely landscaped, vandals are less likely to trash or tag it."

- Gabrielle Wilder, Northside newsletter, Fall 1996

NNA is in the process of planning a tree planting to make use of an Our City Forest program, 2000 Trees for the Millenium. Stay posted to this site, or call Chuck Hagenmaier at 295-5860, for details once a date and time have been established.

NNA's most recent tree planting was held on Saturday, October 24, 1998. NNA, with a grant from the San Jose Beautification and Barbecue Corps, planted approximately 20 sycamore trees along N. 13th, N. 17th, N. 21st and Empire Streets. Tree Planting City Council candidate, and current councilmember, Cindy Chavez, was among those volunteering in the rain and the mud that day. Other volunteers included Hagenmaier, Don Gagliardi, Ed Berger, Connie Shaw and Sherrin Van Etta, as well as countless tree amigos from Our City Forest. The scheduled celebratory barbecue was canceled due to the weather.

On Saturday, October 12, 1996, over thirty street trees were planted by NNA volunteers in front of businesses and residences throughout the Northside neighborhood area.
